A vasopressin analog decreased blood loss only by 19 percent in patients undergoing spinal surgery.
Desmopressin acetate (DDAVP, Upjohn Co. of Toronto, Ontario, Canada) has been used to improve bleeding times and to provide surgical hemostasis in patients with platelet disorders (Kobrinsky et al., Lancet, 1984;333:1145-1148 and others).
