Article: EUROPEAN COMPANY STATUTE: LOGJAM OVER PRESIDENCY'S COMPROMISE

Summary:

European Union Social Affairs Ministers, gathered on June 4 in Luxembourg, failed to work out a political agreement to break the deadlock over the Directive on workers' information, consultation and/or participation in parallel with the Regulation establishing a European Company Statute. In spite of the best efforts of the United Kingdom Presidency of the Council, the compromise on offer was spurned. The matter has been sent back to the Committee of Member States' Permanent Representatives to the EU (COREPER) and will be resumed in the second half of the year when Austria takes over the EU Presidency.
