More are on the way and they couldn't be happier. They don't run a shelter for wayward dogs, but raise and race mushing dogs. Driving a dog sled is a 16-year hobby Jim took up after moving to Alaska. The couple races nearly every weekend December through March. Unlike the Iditarod which covers 1,000 miles over ice, snow and water, the Nolkes usually race sprints on groomed trails covering 12 to 30 miles, at speeds of 16 to 20 mph.
