Several top officials employed by the prestigious Bordeaux winemaker Chateau Giscours have been placed under investigation on suspicion of doctoring the wine, according to French justice sources. They said Giscours' former director Jean-Michel Ferrandez and oenologist Regis Froidefond have formally been named targets of a criminal inquiry opened in 1995 by French investigating magistrate Denis Couhe. The probe was opened after state consumer fraud authorities passed on allegations that the chateau had added sugar and water to some vintages, mixed wines from different years, and doctored some wines by adding milk, acid and wines from other areas to its own wines.
