Article: American Academy of Ophthalmology Warns About Problems Associated With Costume Contact Lenses

SAN FRANCISCO, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Academy of Ophthalmology (Eye M.D.s) today warned wearers of costume contact lenses about the danger of spreading eye diseases through sharing contact lenses and the visual impairment caused by these lenses.

"It is important for young wearers of costume contact lenses to not share lenses because of the danger of spreading diseases of the eye," said Mark Abelson, MD, a member of the Academy. "It is also important for all wearers of these special-effects lenses to be aware that wearing these lenses may impair vision, posing a danger in activities requiring precise visual acuity."
