Drinking water quality in England and Wales is better than ever said Environment Minister Michael Meacher.
The Drinking Water Inspectorate's (DWI) Annual Report, published today, shows that of the three million drinking water tests carried out in 1997 only 7,500 failed national and EC standards, a reduction of 18 per cent on 1996 - the best ever result.
