LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 1998--In a big boost to Southern California's future water supply and economy, Metropolitan Water District Tuesday initiated three projects that together will provide an underground storage reservoir larger than most California lakes.

Metropolitan's board of directors authorized $4.9 million for demonstration projects, environmental review and technical studies of three groundwater basins adjoining MWD's Colorado River Aqueduct, in the Mojave desert east of Palm Springs.
