Summary: In a move intended to avenge aggressive tariff policies on cereal starch on the part of the United States, the European Commission is due to vote on adopting a retaliatory tariff on July 29. According to the draft Regulation, the tariff would be set at ECU 5 per tonne on a quota of 2.73 million tonnes of corn gluten feed imported from the US. The product, used widely in animal feed rations, has been imported tariff-free for 30 years. The restrictions will come into effect on June 1, 2001 at the latest.
