SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 4, 1998--Pacific Bell announced today that one million of its customers now subscribe to Caller ID, enabling them to exercise greater privacy and control over which calls they answer.

This milestone puts Caller ID -- the service that allows consumers to see the name and number of who's calling before they answer the phone -- at a 10 percent subscriber rate in California. That is up 500 percent from just two percent one year ago.
