Dow Corning Corp and representatives of women with silicone breast implants agreed to a US$3.2 billion mediated settlement plan that could mark the beginning of the end of the long-running dispute over compensation claims against the company.
The so-called consensual settlement agreed with the Tort Claimants Committee reportedly was a "take it or leave it" proposal thrashed out by Francis McGovern, a federal mediator, and it represents a $300 000 increase over Dow Corning's third offer made in February.
