Pseudo-Crisis In the Persian Gulf
CALM DOWN. Easy does it. Cool it, everybody. Thearmchair hysteria and the media hype over the situation in the Persian Gulf are way out of proportion to the military and political realities involved. To put this pseudo-crisis in perspective, a few points should be kept in mind.
1. The Iraqi attack on the Stark was a tragedy,but it was not a portent of larger conflict, nor even a crisis in the strict sense of the term. It was only an accident. Iraq has apologized and offered to pay compensation. Baghdad and Washington will quickly settle this one, if only because the United States tilts unofficially, but ...
