NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1998--Today FTSE International announces a number of important changes to its index classification system.

There has been growing interest in analysis of stock performance by sector across geographic regions and internationally, spurred on recently by preparations for the introduction of the euro in January 1999. In response to this growing interest FTSE International, following consultation with investors worldwide and with the assistance of analysts at Goldman, Sachs and Co, has been evolving its own single classification system which can be used for international sector comparisons and analysis.
