The classic rock format appears to be gaining in popularity once again as the massive demo of baby boomers grows older. The format now is at a four-year high, according to several ratings and reporting surveys. Today there is at least one classic rock station in each of the top 10 markets, and 15 million people across the country each week listen to classic rock, according to Simmons spring 1998 numbers. While that represents only about 8% of the overall adult population, nearly 80% of these listeners fall into the 25-54 demo that advertisers desire.
