Sudanese material remains easy to obtain and new African sources are emerging.
DESPITE SUSPICIONS of a terrorist link in the Sudan, the gum arabic market is seeing little, if any, trouble. Major US suppliers are optimistic and project continued stability as long as crops remain good and quality stays high. Business is healthy, and gum arabic prices are at an all-time low because of strong supplies.
TIC Gums, one of the largest US suppliers, says it has not imported a single pound of gum arabic from the Sudan this year, although it is allowed to under a special license awarded in July. According to the company, "TIC Gums will not import any Sudanese gum arabic ...
