Mati Weiderpass does not stop at teaching his staff that Hamilton made the first battery-powered watch, and that it went on to appear in Men in Black. Those are just a couple of the 25 timely tidbits that he drills into wanna-be salesmen in his burgeoning chain of Watch World stores.
"We want to impart as much knowledge to our customers as possible," Mr. Weiderpass says. "We believe that the more education people have about watches, the more likely people are to buy them."
It works. Less than three years after he opened his first store in SoHo, Watch World's founder and chief executive has seen his chain mushroom to 57 stores today. That figure includes 13 ...
