An interim rule is being announced today to fill in the details of Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman's Sept. 11 announcement of steps to protect the U.S. environment by halting further infestation of the devastating Asian longhorned beetle. The interim rule will prohibit untreated solid wood packing materials from China.

The interim rule has been crafted in a way that will have the least possible impact on trade with China, said Assistant Secretary Michael V. Dunn. The regulation will require that exporters in China ...
