Tatsuo Maeda has worked his way through the engineering ranks of Mazda Motor Corp. since joining the company in 1969. In late 1994, he was named project program manager for the redesign of the Protege sedan. It is an interesting honor, since many industry analysts predict this will be the last Protege designed independent of Ford. Speaking through an interpreter to Staff Reporter Mark Rechtin, the 51-year-old Maeda talked about Mazda's possible swan song.
