As we seek new ways to scale our Web sites up to the hefty demands of e-commerce, application servers for the Web have become all the rage. Application servers are certainly nothing new. We've been using them in the client/server and distributed-computing world for years. But hooking them up to Web sites is a fairly recent phenomenon.
