New Ford, Chevy platforms debut
JOHN COURETAS
Staff Reporter
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ford and Chevrolet, like two boxing rivals moving up a weight division, introduced beefed-up motor home platforms last week.
The new chassis, they say, answer the RV market's demand for better performance, more cargo capacity and carlike handling.
The platforms extend the automakers' reach into the higher gross vehicle weight ratings for front-mounted, gasoline engine Class A platforms. Ford and Chevrolet already dominate the segment.
Class A motor homes, the largest in the industry, are built on a ladder frame type truck chassis.
