Stores hop on Web to win customers here, abroad

Two years ago, Brian O'Donnell laughed when his wife suggested that the Lincoln Park hardware store he manages start carrying baby strollers.
He's not laughing anymore. Armitage Hardware not only sells pricey Combi brand strollers to well-heeled morns and dads in Lincoln Park, but also to new parents in Singapore, Hong Kong, Italy, Britain and other far-flung locales.
'A few weeks ago, we got an e-mail from a woman in Tel Aviv who was having her baby in three days and just had to have the stroller by then,' relates Mr. O'Donnell, vice-president of Armitage Hardware & Building Supply ...
