The Oregon State Department of Forestry is trying to alleviate Pacific Northwest timber shortages by putting emphasis on growing trees to support public needs. But those opposing such wood production are doing their best to reverse that emphasis.
They have already successfully held back areas of federally owned timberlands from productive forest management use, causing a crisis that has closed many mills.
