DU PONT SAYS FARM SUBSIDIES MILK CONSUMERS, TAXPAYERS
ELKHART, Iowa, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Republican presidential candidate Pete du Pont said today farm subsidies are milking American consumers and taxpayers of about $175 per person per year.
"Agriculture subsidies contribute to the budget deficit, result in the need for higher taxes and drive up the cost of subsidized crops in the very countries where the crops are produced," du Pont said during a visit to the McClung Grain Co.
Du Pont cited a recent State Department report that said American taxpayers paid $26 billion in farm subsidies and consumers paid another $5 billion to $10 billion ...
