LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Sally Peterson, president of Learning English Advocates Drive, called the recent referenda votes taken among members of the United Teachers - Los Angeles union "a major victory for non-English-speaking children."

The votes have national significance, she said. Los Angeles public schools are responsible for teaching the largest number of limited-English-proficient students, she explained.
