Almost by definition, political fundraisingletters are urgent in tone and melodramatic in language. But the lobbying over the nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court has become almost apocalyptic: "What is at stake is . . . decades of progress in the area of constitutional liberties,' contends People for the American Way in an "alert' designed to generate anti-Bork mail from its 250,000, mostly left-of-center members. From the other side, the fundamentalist Christian Voice group thunders back in support of embattled Bork: "This is your one chance . . . to ensure a conservative America --even after President Reagan leaves.' ...
