PREMATURE BABIES ENROLLING IN STUDY TO REDUCE INFECTIONS
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Premature infants hospitalized in Winston-Salem may be enrolled in a national trial studying a way to reduce infections.
In the study, pediatricians and neonatologists at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine are evaluating the use of gamma globulin to reduce the wide variety of infections that plague premature babies.
Gamma globulin has long been used to ward off specific infections -- such as hepatitis, measles and chicken pox -- in older children and adults after known exposure to infected persons. Gamma globulin contains antibodies to a ...
