Believing in Judge Bork
Without a doubt, it was the most exhaustive and searching inquiry ever conducted into a judicial nominee's philosophy. Yet when Robert Bork concluded his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee Saturday, he did not appear to have persuaded any of the four critical swing votes on the 14-member committee and, indeed, his retrenching on a few key points seemed to raise new questions, casting a flicker of doubt about the confirmation changes of the distinguished appeals-court judge.
