It began as a trickle, but with each passing day the numbers grew.
By the time the NFL players strike ended its second week, about 100 athletes had crossed the picket lines, including such stars as Danny White, Tony Dorsett and Ed "Too Tall" Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and Roy Green and E. J. Junior of the St. Louis Cardinals. Others said they, too, might soon don their uniforms if the strike continues. Among them: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana, who had already lost more than $120,000 in pay.
