The International Investment Position of the United States in 1986
THE negative net international investment position of the United States increased to $263.6 billion in 1986 from $111.9 billion (revised) in 1985 (table 1). Net capital inflows of $117.4 billion were accounted for by record foreign purchases of U.S. corporate securities, net inflows to U.S. banks, and foreign official inflows due to intervention and other dollar purchases in exchange markets by several countries' monetary authorities.
