Prudhoe Output Decline Fueling Fears Of Greater Reliance on Imported Oil

Alaska's crude oil production, now nearly one-fourth of the United States daily output, is expected to drop by about half over the next decade-- fueling concern over rising imports, industry sources said.

"We've got to find more oil or prepare ourselves for even greater reliance on imports,' Atlantic Richfield Co. President Robert Wycoff said recently.

Failure to find new domestic sources of crude oil to offset declining Alaskan output will increase U.S. dependence on imported oil, especially from the Mideast, analysts said.
