Putting the Brakes on the Baldness-Cure Bandwagon
Recently, the use of the high blood pressure drug minoxidil to stimulate hair restoration and growth has received widespread publicity. FDA is currently reviewing an application from The Upjohn Company, of Kalamazoo, Mich., for approval to market minoxidil as a baldness treatment, but the drug is still considered experimental for such use. Nevertheless, some companies, hoping to capitalize on all the publicity about minoxidil's possibilities, have been marketing their own version of the drug for treating baldness, even though they, too, have no FDA approval to do so.
