Article: Housing Authority Gets Record Number of Section 8 Applicants on First Two Days of Registration.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1998--A record 35,000-plus people registered with the Housing Authority of the city of Los Angeles (HACLA) on the first two days of registration of Section 8, which was reopened for the first time in nearly a decade (1990).

It is also the first time applicants could register on HACLA's Web site at http://www.hacla.org, which received about 1,700 e-mails on the first two days.

"The first two days of Section 8 open registration went as expected and planned," said Steve Renahan, Section 8 director. "We got over 35,000 registrations via phone, fax, e-mail and U.S. mail. Of those, over 1,700 were via e-mail."
