Sep. 23--The last sewing jobs in Montgomery County are leaving on the horse they rode in on.
In two months, Jockey International will fire 240 people from its underwear plant in Mount Sterling, spokesman John Cronce said yesterday. That will leave about 50 jobs for workers who cut materials and package them for assembly by contractors.
The sewing work will be split among Jockey's plants in Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and the Caribbean.
The privately held Kenosha, Wis., company is trying to strike a balance between domestic manufacturing, which allows for quick turnaround, and the cost savings ...
