Sep. 24--Talk to Eric LaMalle about the price of the butter used in his popular Ristra restaurant near downtown Santa Fe, and he throws up his hands in amazement.
"Oh my God, it's unreal," he said. "It's out of control. I used to pay $48 for a case of butter, and it's now $106. It has more than doubled."
LaMalle is not alone -- restaurateurs and bakers all over Santa Fe and elsewhere are paying much more for butter than they did previously. Some of them say they're not raising the prices of meals and baked goods to cover the added cost, but others are.
