Sep. 26--Across the hurricane-ravaged Dominican Republic, angry residents on Friday blamed the government for not warning them adequately about the the fury of Hurricane Georges.
As rescue workers pulled more bloated bodies from flooded rivers -- pushing Georges' death toll to more than 200 in the Dominican Republic and at least 307 in the Caribbean -- the government found itself battling not just the country's worst disaster since Hurricane David in 1979, but harsh questions about its slow response before and after Georges.
Shelters in the capital of Santo Domingo didn't even open until the hurricane hit ...
