Sep. 28--FORT WORTH, Texas--Alcon Laboratories has changed with the times.
Fifty-one years ago, the founders of the Fort Worth company cooked up a line of pharmaceuticals with a home blender and pressure cooker. From those humble beginnings, the company grew into a $2 billion operation, with a hefty research and development program and the leadership position in its industry.
This month, Alcon got in step with another trend: It bought a line of dietary supplements, the kind of nutritional vitamins that were once criticized by many pharmaceutical companies and medical professionals.
