Oct. 7--With the countdown to 2000 ticking away, debate continues to rage over the three great millennial questions.
Will all our computers crash on Jan. 1, 2000 (the Y2K crisis)?
Does the new century start then or on Jan. 1, 2001?
And does anybody really care?
A fourth question, arguably even more vexing, has largely gone unnoticed. Forget about centuries and millennia: what exactly do we call the next decade?
We were in the '80s. We are in the '90s. We're going to enter ... the Zeros? The Double Zeros? The Double Ohs? The Zeds? The Aughts? The Naughts, perhaps?
