Oct. 10--WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--Engine maker Pratt & Whitney announced plans to cut 1,000 jobs in South Florida by mid-2000 part of a global restructuring prompted by weak sales to Asia and cuts in defense spending.
The plan also includes relocating some engineers and support staff from northwest Palm Beach County to Connecticut, where the engines are manufactured, Pratt president Karl J. Krapek said in an internal memo released on Friday. About 1,000 jobs will also be cut at headquarters in Connecticut.
