NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE FEATURES)--Oct. 14, 1998--When investigating external influences on young people aged eight to 17, the 1998 Roper Youth Report found a definite difference between lifestyle choices, which are mainly driven by friends, and life choices, which are largely influenced by parents. Yet, in all trended categories, the influence of friends has increased since 1997 among both teens and preteens.
Parents are the overwhelming influence for two thirds of kids interviewed (66%) on whether or not to drink alcohol -- 72% for preteens and 61% for teens. While friends are in second place in both age groups, they begin to take on increasing importance with ...
