Oct. 18--EVERETT, Pa.--Not a cow is in sight at milking time on Willow Springs Farm.
Instead, sheep head to the milking stanchions, where Dale and Kate Thomsen milk them on their Bedford County farm near here. Each ewe gives 2 pounds of milk a day.
Milking sheep? In Pennsylvania? Why not?
The Thomsens, owners of the only inspected and licensed sheep dairy in the state, have been milking sheep for three years and selling the milk at farmers' markets, at sheep and wool festivals, and to a cheese plant in Berks County.
