Fruit production increased 12 percent in 1997 from a year ago to 35.7 million tons. Noncitrus fruit production rose 14 percent, and citrus production rose 10 percent. Noncitrus fruit accounted for slightly over half of all fruit produced. Crop size increased for all fruit except apples, plums/prunes, lemons, papayas, dates, guavas, olives, avocados, and pineapples. It remained constant for limes and mangos.
