DETROIT, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- In July, The Sporting News declared Detroit the best sports city for 1998. What they failed to mention was that Detroit is also the best figure skating city in the country.

In February, the Detroit Skating Club sent six skaters to the Winter Olympics in Nagano, nearly half of the U.S. team. This week at Thrifty Car Rental Skate America International '98, the skating club will send five of its members to the first major international competition of the season. At Skate America, top skaters from around the world, including Elvis Stojko of Canada, will compete in this first event of the Championship series.
