COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. _ For so long now, it has bent and swayed, adjusted and modified.
Saturday, it finally broke.
The Southern Methodist University defense couldn't contain Air Force's slippery option, its speed, and its ability to score points. And combined with more mistakes and mishaps from SMU's own offense _ which suddenly became a passing machine _ it was simply overwhelming.
``We took a beating,'' SMU linebacker Tyree Taylor said. ``They're just a very good team.''
