NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE FEATURES)--Nov. 3, 1998--Given a list of eight generalized free-time activities, nearly six in 10 children (58%) ages six to 17 choose as a favorite "hanging out, playing with my friends." Nearly as many (53%) like to be "playing sports and doing outdoor things," according to the 1998 Roper Youth Report.
Third most popular at 29% is "being by myself doing things in my room like watching videos, playing video games or talking on the phone," which includes both social and nonsocial components. Placing fourth is "using my imagination to create things, like writing stories, making music, making my own computer games or other things" (20%).
