WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The decision by voters on the Big Island of Hawaii to allow construction of a food irradiation facility there is a "big win for food safety," according to the Grocery Manufacturers of America.
After a spirited campaign and numerous public debates, the Friends of Agriculture-Hawaii were successful on Election Day in defeating a ballot initiative that would have prevented the construction of a food irradiation facility. The measure won by a 473-vote margin with over 51,000 votes cast.
