Kmart Corp. last week opened 45 former Venture stores as new Big Kmart stores in seven states, the largest number of stores the chain has opened on a single day. With 120 Big Kmart conversions also celebrating grand reopenings last week, the Big Kmart format now represents 62 percent of the chain, or 1,245 stores.
The 45 new Kmarts represent a $108 million investment for the retailer.
