NEW YORK -- Specialty stores, led by Gap, American Eagle Outfitters, Talbots and Ann Taylor, outperformed other retail sectors in October, which proved to be a lackluster month overall, raising some concerns about Christmas.
However, to no one's surprise, Wal-Mart and Target posted positive comps, in line with their trends of the year, and Kmart came through with a healthy report, but cited weakness in apparel.
