Nov. 6--The Nob Hill Foods store at 1040 N. Davis Road in Salinas has closed, leaving open only the Nob Hill in South Salinas until a new store is built later next year.
The Davis Road store's 75 employees have all been transferred to other Nob Hill stores, said Susan Kennedy, Nob Hill's director of advertising and public relations.
The Davis Road store opened in April 1980, Kennedy said, but was small and landlocked with no opportunity for expansion.
The store also faced stiff competition in North Salinas from larger, newer stores such as Wal-Mart, Costco and Lucky.
