NEW YORK _ Americans have a generous penchant for changing names to include more people. Thus in 1954 we changed the name of the Nov. 11 holiday from Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I, to Veterans Day, honoring the veterans of all wars.
We're right to honor all veterans who fought for the country. But on this 80th anniversary of the original Armistice Day, we should also reflect on the particular horrors of World War I.
