Summary: The European Commission suggested on November 10 raising prices slightly for whitefish in its annual proposal for fixing guide prices for fishery products in 1999. However, prices for haddock, hake and prawns are unchanged, while dogfish, megrim, tuna and monkfish prices have been raised by 2 to 3% in the Commission proposal - due to be the main topic on the agenda of the November 17 Fisheries Council.
The proposal covers fresh and chilled products as well as frozen products and tuna prices to the canning industry. The Commission says that there was a general fall in catches in the EU, and a rise in world demand this year.
