There's no such thing as an easy role, says Derek Jacobi, knight of the realm (he became Sir Derek in 1994) and esteemed thespian of stage, screen and television. Whether it's spy stuff in ``The Odessa File,'' Shakespeare stuff in ``Henry V,'' or playing a sleuthing 12th-century monk in PBS's ``Cadfael'' mysteries _ or being the ``I'' in ``I, Claudius,'' the celebrated miniseries that put the actor on the map _ Jacobi says that every performance has its challenge.
But ``Love Is the Devil,'' in which he plays British painter Francis Bacon, posed special problems.
